The most common skin care mistakes listed by dermatologists as follows;
1. Avoiding the sun only in summer
Contrary to popular belief, sunscreen should be used in cloudy weather. It should not be forgotten that even in winter, the ultraviolet rays of the sun can cause or increase skin stains.
2. Not refreshing solar products
It is recommended to apply sunscreen products at least 15 minutes before going out in the sun. If you will always be in a sunny environment afterwards, this process should be repeated every 2 hours, and if you will be in a closed environment, this process should be repeated every 4 hours. In case of sweating or swimming, the skin should be renewed after drying without waiting. If sunscreens are not renewed at the specified intervals, you may experience sunspots and burns.
3. Exfoliating frequently
Peeling processes are useful in removing dead skin, but different products are used for different skin types. Frequent peeling applications can bring more harm than good. The peeling feature in some creams can cause skin irritations when peeling or scrubbing those who use these creams.
4. Not applying moisturizer to oily or combination skin
Oily skin also needs moisture. Those with oily skin should prefer water-based products. Oil and moisture on the skin are not the same thing. On an oily surface, water loss is less than on a dry surface. However, this does not mean that oily skin does not need moisture. In fact, since there is no moisture balance in the skin, the skin needs to produce extra sebum. For this reason, those who have oily skin type should definitely use moisturizer.
5. Washing your face too often
It is said that washing the face too often can disrupt the sebum balance of the skin. In cases where sebum balance cannot be achieved in the skin, the skin remains unprotected against external factors. This causes the skin to dry out.
6. Squeezing acne and blackheads
Pimples and blackheads can make you want to pop them. The fact that blasting or squeezing them is necessary for skin cleansing is an excuse for this request. Everything you don’t want on your skin becomes even more permanent when you try to force it out. Therefore, acne and blackheads should not be squeezed. Squeezing the pimple will force you to deal with the spots afterwards.
7. Using expired products
Many people do not look at expiration dates when purchasing cosmetics or perfumes, such as milk and yogurt. In fact, many aisle employees say that ‘cosmetic products do not have an expiration date, it starts after the product is opened’. But this is completely wrong. Using expired skin products can cause allergic reactions. Apart from this, on the back of many products, there is an expression for how long it can be used after the package is opened, and this time should be taken into consideration. You cannot get the effect you expect from a product that has expired.
